CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Residents are demanding Chicago police come up with a plan for dealing with unruly crowds like the one this week in Old Town.
There were swarms of people climbing on a CTA bus and cars around North Avenue in Old Town Wednesday night. Police made one arrest. 18-year old Termaine Patterson was charged with a misdemeanor for reckless conduct and ticketed for having open alcohol.
After a community meeting Thursday night on the out-of-control crowd’s activity, resident Joe Jacobazzi told CBS-2 police need a plan for the future.
“When they know it’s going to happen, then they need to have a proactive plan. That could be closing the beach, ok, and say, ‘if you’re going to do this on social media, you’re going to continue to do it on social media, you’re not going to be able to access the beach,’” said Jacobazzi.
A longtime detective told CBS-2 there’s been no strategy from the top echelons of the police department for dealing with big crowds like the one this week.
