CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The oldest candy store in St. Charles is closing for good a week from Friday.
Customers can get candy at the Warehouse Confectionery for half-price but won’t be able to shop at the downtown St Charles store in the new year.
The Daily Chronicle reported owners Alec and Mari Wittum opened the store four decades ago while they were in college and decided it’s time to close.
Alec Wittum learned to make candy while working at the Long Grove Confectionary and told the paper customers are processing it like “the loss of an old friend.”
Customers are remembering Warehouse Confectionery in person and online, calling this the end of an era.
