(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — One person was hospitalized, and another was injured in what Hinsdale police said was a two-vehicle crash Thursday morning.

Authorities told WBBM the preliminary investigation concluded that two vehicles were traveling northbound on Salt Creek Road from Ogden Avenue, when one of the cars failed to brake and rear-ended the vehicle in front of it.

Hinsdale Deputy Chief Thomas Lillie said the at-fault driver likely continued accelerating after the collision, which resulted in their vehicle being wedged underneath the car they crashed into.

A photograph taken by a bystander on the scene showed the aftermath: A silver car, pushed up against what police described as a brick fence structure, with its undercarriage resting on the roof of a red car.

Officials with the Hinsdale Fire Department said one person was taken by ambulance to LaGrange Hospital with minor injuries. The other individual was treated for minor injuries at the scene.

The pileup backed up traffic on Ogden between the Tri-State Expressway and York Road around noon.
