CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Two men in their mid-30s were shot to death yesterday afternoon while children played nearby in Humboldt Park.
The men were in the park at about 3 p.m. along Louis Munoz Drive when, police said, two armed men approached and started shooting. 35-year-old Antwon Gee was hit in the chest. 34-year-old Devel Jones was hit in the chest and head. Both were dead at the scene and said to be good friends.
One person was arrested and two guns were recovered, according to police.
Activist Andrew Holmes was there after the shooting.
“This to me was an execution. Again, so many kids in the park, people walking their dogs, children playing, people just sitting around, and all of a sudden, you walk up and discharge that weapon and take two people’s lives,” said Holmes.
He said kids were playing in the park while police did their work, the bodies on the ground.
Some family members of the dead men showed up, clearly distraught.
The motive is unclear. There are cameras in the area.
