CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Orland Park village board voted unanimously Tuesday night not to enforce Cook County’s proof-of-vaccination mandate that goes into effect on Monday.
Orland Park officials said Cook County’s proof-of-vaccination mandate for restaurants, bars and fitness centers is not data driven, discriminates against the unvaccinated and would add one more duty to police who are already busy.
“Cook County government is not concerned with our officers’ workload. This isn’t surprising to me or anyone else up here considering Kim Foxx’s policies have already over-worked our officers and put our residents at risk,” Mayor Keith Pekau said.
Trustee Michael Milani said the county’s mandate doesn’t make sense.
You won’t need proof of ID for voting, but you will need proof it’s you that’s vaccinated,” Milani said.
Orland Park also does not enforce the state’s mask mandate. At last night’s meeting, only the police chief and one trustee were wearing them.
