HIGHLAND PARK (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - As Highland Park continues to deal with the aftermath of the parade shooting, there are countless stories of people helping one another in ways big and small. The leader of the chamber of commerce says, “that’s Highland Park.”
“(We are) moving from a feeling of almost being paralyzed by the shock of it all, to moving forward and saying, ‘we are going to roll up our sleeves and get to work,’” said Ginny Glasner, the President & CEO of the Highland Park Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber has been compiling and vetting information useful to businesses and citizens.
They include mental health resources, how to get storefront windows replaced for free, which is courtesy of S and S Glass Company, as well as where to find comfort dogs.
“It will take time. We will be balancing our sensitive and raw feelings right now, and the Highland Park community is strong, it’s resilient. People support each other. Our vitality will come back. It’s gratifying to hear that when people say, ‘we will shop and dine and enjoy Highland Park, we can’t wait to do that.’ People do need to gather. People do need other people,” Glasner said.
The chamber created signs for storefronts.
“We don’t have all the answers but we have this community. We will reopen as soon as possible to serve you. Let’s Heal together. HP Strong,” read the signs.
