PEORIA (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A man and woman under investigation in Peoria after police found a dead dog and six others that were emaciated on an abandoned boat.

When the dogs were discovered in early July, police noticed a smell coming from the boat, and it was later learned several people had been living on it and it had broken down.

The boat was anchored in the Illinois River.  The dogs were locked in crates.  There was food in the boat, but they couldn’t get to it. A note that said they were well cared for.

The dogs were seized.

It’s unclear how long they had been there.  Police eventually identified the people involved.  While charges are being considered, a police officer paid a visit to the 32-foot cabin cruiser.

There was another dog onboard.

When police said they were taking the dog, they said the owner, Robert Recaldini refused to give them the dog and threatened to burn down Peoria.

There was then a scuffle.

WMBD in Peoria reports Recaldini, from Pennsylvania, and a woman onboard, Amanda O’Neill, from Wheeling, are charged with aggravated battery to a police officer and resisting arrest.
