(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Organizers of Chicago's St. Patrick's Parade say because of the pandemic, the event will be replaced by a virtual version this year.
Michele Scaccia, the parade's marketing director, on Friday said a big issue was working with high school bands that march in the parade.
The virtual parade on March 13 will feature recorded performances by some of the bands and other groups that had planned to march, she said.
Also, the dyeing of the Chicago River green has been scrapped.
Meanwhile, a spokesperson for the South Side Irish Parade — Chicago’s other major St. Patrick’s-related parade — said a decision on whether to go forward is expected late next week. It appears the city has not issued a permit for that parade.
