(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Former U.S. vice president Mike Pence and his former boss, Donald Trump, will both be in Illinois next week.
Just days after the Jan. 6 Committee highlighted Trump’s rage over Pence’s refusal to help overturn the 2020 presidential election, the former vice president on Monday will speak to the University Club of Chicago about economic policies.
Pence, the former governor of Indiana, will also travel to Peoria for a political event.
On June 25, Trump will appear at a rally in Quincy, Illinois on the state’s western edge. He'll be there to support Illinois Congresswoman Mary Miller, R-Oakland, who is seeking re-election.
U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin of Illinois, the No. 2 Democrat in the Senate, says it will be interesting having both men in the state given the latest bombshells about Jan. 6 — that Pence refused to bow to Trump’s pressure.
An angry mob of Trump supporters stormed the Capitol building as Congress was certifying the election results.
“I remember watching the Secret Service come in and yank Mike Pence out of the chair,” Durbin said.
“I believe the Jan. 6 Committee has made it clear that he not only did not have the support of the president of the United States, he did not have his protection.”
Pence missed the intruding mob by about 40 feet, according to information presented at this week’s hearing.
The Illinois primary comes just days after Trump’s visit.
