UPDATE: Three hospitalized in shooting outside South Side funeral home, officials say

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) Three people were hospitalized after a shooting outside of a funeral home on the South Side Wednesday, authorities said.

Officials said it happened shortly before 11 a.m., when gunfire was exchanged near Leak & Sons Funeral Home, located at 78th and Cottage Grove.

Chicago fire crews transported two people to area hospitals at about 11:15 a.m., according to Chicago Fire Department Spokesperson Larry Langford.

Langford said one individual was shot and taken to University of Chicago Medical Center in "extremely critical" condition. Another person was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in good condition with a hip injury.

A spokesperson with CPD later said a third person, a 43-year-old man, was shot in the jaw and transported himself to a local hospital. CPD said the 43-year-old was in critical condition.

Police said no offenders were in custody. Area detectives are investigating.
