Driver shot by Joliet police after pinning officer against car during traffic stop

JOLIET, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A driver was shot by Joliet police after pinning an officer against a car during a traffic stop in the southwest suburb Tuesday afternoon, authorities said.

Police stopped the driver around 3:30 p.m. in the 100 block of North Center Street, but the person then struck an officer, Joliet police said in a statement.

More officers arrived at the scene and opened fire, striking the person, police said. The person was taken to a hospital, but the condition was not known.

The officer was also taken to a hospital and stabilized, police said.

The Will-Grundy Major Crimes Task Force was conducting the investigation.
