CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A Chicago police officer shot and wounded a person as he ran from a street stop in Bronzeville on the South Side Sunday night, authorities said.

Plainclothes officers approached two people in the 4500 block of South Drexel Avenue around 9:40 p.m., according to a statement from the Chicago Police Department.

One of them ran into an alley and an officer shot him, police said. He was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in good condition.

No officers were injured, Chicago police spokesperson Tom Ahern said in a tweet.

Ahern said a gun was recovered at the scene, but neither he nor the department statement said why the officers stopped the two and what exactly led to the chase and the shooting.

The Civilian Office of Police Accountability said in a tweet it was investigating the incident, as is rouine. Anyone with information can call (312) 746-3609 or visit chicagocopa.org.
