(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Dueling petition challenges Monday marked the first day of hearings for the upcoming Chicago municipal elections.

The pattern for high-profile hearings is that each side makes accusations against the other and tries to have the opponents’ objections thrown out.

Mayoral candidates Willie Wilson and Ja’Mal Green are challenging each other’s petitions.

Wilson’s lawyer, Andrew Finko, argued for an examination of 75% of Green’s signatures.

Green’s lawyer, Anish Parikh, questioned whether Wilson meets residency requirements.

The first day hearings was only the preliminary round.
