(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Planned Parenthood leaders in Illinois and Wisconsin have announced details of their partnership for abortion care.

Planned Parenthood sites in Wisconsin immediately suspended all abortion procedures after the Dobbs V Jackson decision. The organizations CEO’s in both Illinois and Wisconsin in a new partnership now say that they had for some time anticipated the need for a post Roe pivot.

"Wisconsin staff spent several days training in Illinois clinicians and medical staff were licensed to practice in Illinois, and we worked out systems so that patients can start and end their care in Wisconsin."

Illinois CEO Jennifer Welch said the Waukegan Planned Parenthood site opened for this purpose in 2020 near the Wisconsin border.

"Abortion providers from Wisconsin now travel to Illinois several days a week," she said.

Abortion navigators from both affiliates also now assist patients in overcoming legal, financial, transportation and other barriers.
