(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Extra police patrols prompted by a rash of burglaries has paid off in north suburban Antioch, authorities say.
After police increased overnight patrols, one officer early Thursday spotted an open door to a service garage, with the beam of a flashlight inside, the Antioch Police Department said in a news release.
That is when 30-year-old Michael Tangney allegedly came out wearing a plastic Halloween mask, with his arms full of stolen tools and burglary tools. He dropped some items as he tried to run but did not get far, police said.
Police say they found cocaine and methamphetamine in his possession. They say he was responsible for at least one other burglary.
Tangney is faces several charges, including felony residential burglary. He was ordered held on $300,000 bond in Lake County, officials said.
