AURORA, Ill. (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- The winter break can’t come fast enough for districts in the Chicago area and across the country as the threats spreading on Tik-Tok escalate, disrupting classes and causing frustration and anxiety.

The Superintendent of Schools in the East Aurora District, Dr. Jennifer Norrell, said “threats are not something that’s fun" and what these kids are doing can have a life-changing impact.

"Much of this is a result of our increased student anxiety from the pandemic," she noted.

Aurora Police Chief Keith Cross said his department has been inundated with school threats. "Each one of those threats unecessarily ties up valuable resources."

Kane County State’s Attorney Jamie Mosser wants kids to know they’re committing a felony by making a threat. "These are not a joke," she said.

"This is not something we can pass off as a childish game and it has very traumatic results."

Dr. Adrian Talley is the Superintendent of the Indian Prairie School District and advised parents that they need to be looking at their children's social media accounts every day.

Educators hope this trend fades away during students' upcoming winter break.
