CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - U.S. Customs and Border Protection at O’Hare reported what may seem to most people to be an unusual seizure from a traveler from overseas.

The person traveled from Cameroon to Chicago.

Steven Bansbach is the Public Affairs Officer for the CPB Chicago Field Office.
“The officers were able to find 5 pounds of non-human primate meat, 3 pounds of porcupine meat, and 25 pounds of unknown meat products, which were all prohibited under CDC guidelines,” Bansbach said.

Why is are those types of things prohibited?

“Those types of meats from Africa pose a risk of spreading zoonotic diseases which could be very dangerous and possibly life threatning if they are possibly putting this together for a dinner,” said Bansbach.

He said it’s not really all that unusual. Bansbach said Customs and Border Protection tries to educate people like the traveler from Cameroon about what they can and can’t bring into the US.
