MOUNT PROSPECT (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Governor J.B. Pritzker spent this Memorial Day honoring those who gave their lives in service of the country during a ceremony in Mount Prospect.

The governor, son and grandson of Naval officers, told the crowd gathered at the Veterans’ Memorial Band Shell there is no higher calling than defending our country.

“God bless those men and women who have gone to war and died so this nation and our people shall endure.

“To every one of you here, who served in uniform, and to the family members who made that service possible, on behalf of the people of Illinois, thank you,” Pritkzer told the crowd.

Army Sergeant Allen Lynch who received the Medal of Honor for his conspicuous gallantry in Vietnam was the keynote speaker.

“You know what it’s like to be shot at and we would do it again because this country is that great and that worth it,” said Lynch.

The VFW Prospect Post 13-37 helped organize the ceremony. The post has been honored as An All-American Post for the last three years.
