Illinois Gov. JB Pritzker on Tuesday said two mass shootings in the U.S. within a week may cause people to again think about limiting access to assault weapons.

Like most leaders, Pritzker said, he sees the mass shootings in Colorado and Georgia and does not want to see anything like that happen here.

He hopes people will talk about the easy availability of guns, and propose legislation.

Pritzker said he supports restrictions on the sales of so-called assault weapons, properly defined.

“Those are things that we’ve got to do away with. Those are for no other use than killing masses of people,” the governor said.

Despite all the behind-the-scenes talk, though, passing gun legislation has proven exceedingly difficult to do in Illinois.

President Biden has urged federal lawmakers to consider the type of  assault weapons ban that expired in the U.S.
