CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Governor Pritzker is lashing out at the latest political ad aimed at the state’s criminal justice reform laws.
A right-wing political action committee has started running a commercial that shows a crime being committed and linked the governor, and Mayor Lightfoot to the atmosphere of violence.
Governor Pritzker had harsh words for an ad by the so-called "People Who Play By The Rules" PAC, showing a white woman assaulted by apparently Black men. He says that’s the message they want to be seen in the suburbs.
“The intent of the people who put it out, look at all the things that they’re involved in, clearly has a racial tinge to it,” Pritzker said.
Dan Proft, the head of the PAC, issued a statement, saying he can’t tell the race of the perpetrators in the ad, suggesting the governor is fabricating a racial issue. The ads help GOP gubernatorial candidate Darren Bailey.
“Darren Bailey sanctions these kinds of ads, thinks they’re ok, has accepted the support of that PAC, and Darren Bailey is the one who voted to defund police, literally voted against budgets that fund state police for Illinois- the increase in state police that we need,” said Pritzker.
Pritzker said Bailey also voted against money for the crime lab.
