(WBBM NEWSRADIO) —Gov. JB Pritzker is urging Illinoisans to get vaccinated and take precautions as some troubling cases of coronavirus and the so-called Delta variant cause health officials to worry.

Pritzker did not suggest Illinois was in danger of slipping back into COVID-19 restrictions — yet. But at an unrelated event on Chicago’s West Side he said what’s happening in Illinois and around the world could be a sign of trouble ahead.

“Israel, which has led the world in vaccinations, has reinstated its indoor mask mandate and other mitigations, in light of fully vaccinated adults getting infected with the Delta variant,” he said Monday.

He warned the Delta variant may dominate new cases in the state and noted an outbreak of coronavirus at a central Illinois youth bible camp earlier this month.

Eighty-five young people and adult staffers tested positive for coronavirus, and one person had to be hospitalized, Pritzker said.

Most of the people infected at the Schuyler County camp facility had not been vaccinated, Illinois health director Ngozi Ezike said last week.
