CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Governor JB Pritzker and Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Monday new job development and housing programs for Chicago's West Side; but they did not do it together, despite being in the same neighborhood.
Governor Pritzker joined officials from the Will Group in North Lawndale for the ribbon cutting for the K-Town Business Development Center. It’s part of the state’s program to provide capital to help minority-owned businesses to expand.
"Last year, I am proud to say that we delivered over $11 million to 31 organizations like the Will Group across the state opening the door for a ripple effect of new investments and jobs," Pritzker said.
The Governor was there to announce a new round of funding.
Earlier, Mayor Lori Lightfoot was also in North Lawndale launching a program to turn vacant lots into 250 new West Side homes. It was the kickoff of the City’s Reclaiming Communities Campaign, which hopes to eventually build 1,000 new homes in North Lawndale.
"We are working closely with partners and Chicago Neighborhood Initiatives, Lawndale Christian, and United Power for Action and Justice to turn vacant land into affordable homes," Lightfoot said.
Clearly the two leaders did not work together. But Lightfoot sent a deputy to Pritzker’s news conference and Alderman Michael Scott attended both.
