(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Some counties in Illinois have complained about not getting enough vaccine, but Gov. JB Pritzker says some counties “ask for way more than is appropriate.”

Counties in the Chicago area have had some of the lowest Covid-vaccination rates in Illinois. One problem is getting the supplies of vaccine.

Pritzker on Thursday was at a mass-vaccination site in St. Clair County, near St. Louis, and he was asked about an apparent disparity: some counties getting more vaccine than others from the state.

He said the Illinois Department of Public Health reviews requests from counties, and officials determine, by population, what is appropriate.

“And we have to decide,” the governor said. “Some counties ask for way more than is appropriate, given the size of their county. Some counties are right on the nose. We have to make some judgment calls along the way.”

Pritzker said more than 12% of the state’s population has received at least a first dose.

On Thursday, the state’s department of health reported 1,966 new confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus, including 72 additional deaths. The statewide “positivity” rate is less than 3%.
