
CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- A couple of private donations totaling more than $25 million will be paying for a new effort to train police officers and community violence intervention experts from around the country.
Citadel founder Ken Griffin is donating the funds. GCM Grosvenor CEO Michael Sacks…two-and-a-half million to the new University of Chicago initiative called The Community Safety Leadership Academies.
According to Crain’s Business, the Police Leadership Academy will teach police leaders how to better use data in their decision-making as well as making their departments better through training and accountability. The Community Violence Intervention Leadership Academy will teach ways to use data and develop staff.
“Solving the public safety crisis facing our cities is an all-hands-on-deck problem, demanding strong leadership from the police and CVI workers on the front lines of our communities,” Sacks said in a statement. “It also demands support from the philanthropic community.”
