CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - A rally and counter demonstration brought dozens of people from both sides of the abortion rights discussion to downtown Chicago Saturday afternoon.
March for Life Chicago had planned the rally at Federal Plaza in celebration of the Supreme Court Dobbs v. Jackson decision, which now gives individual states control over abortion access laws.
“It’s to mark a huge moment in our country, in overturning Roe v. Wade…and really from the pro-life side it’s a moment to celebrate in our country that Roe v. Wade is gone,” said Anna Kinskey, a March for Life organizer.
Dozens of Midwesterners joined Kinskey, who also reacted to President Biden’s new executive order that brings some federal protections for individual rights abortion access.
“I think it’s really sad to see President Biden moving to honestly make America more like Illinois, and its extreme abortion laws, and moving in those steps, when the president does have so much power to be supporting women, supporting pre-born children in other ways,” said Kinskey.
Upon hearing of the large anti-abortion celebration, Chicago For Abortion Rights gathered their numbers on the east side of Dearborn across the street from Federal plaza in counter protest. Linda Lowe was their organizer.
“We want to fight to restore the legality and fight for the access for everyone. And, we have to stand up to forces like the March for Life,” Lowe proclaimed.
Lowe also shared her reaction to President Biden’s limited executive order.
“It’s a limited executive order. The fact of it is a reflection of the pressure that’s coming from all over the country,” Lowe said.
