CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Nine people are safe thanks to a Lake Michigan rescue by Chicago fire and police crews last night.

The distress call came in at about 7:11 p.m. from a boat about 200 yards out from 71st Street Beach in South Shore.

The Chicago Fire Department said the white and red boat was taking on water, and nine people onboard had to be rescued.

No one was injured, and the boat was towed to Jackson Park Harbor.

It’s not clear what caused the boat to get stranded.
