(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Residents of an Edgewater apartment building are trying to get on with their lives, three days after an apparent murder-suicide rocked the neighborhood.
The victim: 23-year-old Brittany Kinlow, who was just about to graduate from UIC.
Phillip Richardson, a resident of the Bryn Mawr Belle Shore apartment building, said he heard the gunshots.
“It makes me want to watch my step going in and out of my apartment. I texted my mom and I told my mom about it, and my mom told me don’t leave my apartment unless I have to.”
Police say Brittany Kinlow’s next-door neighbor killed her in the laundry room and then went back to the eighth floor and killed himself.
Richardson says he knew that man and was aware that he engaged in illegal drug activities.
“He sold. He didn’t hide it. He had customers.”
Friends of Brittany Kinlow have started a GoFundMe page to pay her funeral expenses.
