(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Some suburban restaurants say they will defy Illinois Gov. Pritzker’s order reinstating COVID-19 restrictions suspending indoor dining and bar service — a state order that is to take effect Friday in Will, DuPage, Kane and Kankakee counties.

The Stagecoach Eatery and Saloon in Lockport says on Facebook it’s not trying to be rebellious and wants people to wear masks. But owners say its decision to continue with indoor dining is one of survival.

More than 30 employees depend on the restaurant for their livelihoods, and outdoor dining is not a viable option, the post said.

It pointed out heaters are not allowed within 20 feet of outdoor tents, due to fire codes.

Meanwhile, a couple of DuPage County restaurants — Ki’s Steak and Seafood in Glendale Heights and Italian Pizza Kitchen in Roselle — call Pritzker a “dictator.” Both say on Facebook they’re standing up for their freedom.

They say they respect people who wish to stay home but hope people support them.

The restaurants' Facebook posts have had hundred of responses, most seemingly in favor of their defiance of the governor's order.

On Thursday, Pritzker said rogue businesses that disobey the health safeguards will face penalties ranging from fines to revocation of their liquor license.
