(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – For the struggling Chicago White Sox, the last few days have been a whirlwind: Five players traded and probably more on the way out.
It arguably makes sense, given the South Siders’ dismal record of 42-63 (12 ½ games out of first). But what do you tell the fans, General Manager Rick Hahn was asked Friday night.
“You’re talking more like rallying cries and marketing slogans and crap like that. I’m not really focused on that right now,” he told reporters. “Right now, we’ve got work to do in terms of continuing to execute deals like the ones we have.”
He said it will be appropriate later in the year to “reflect on the season and direction and what’s next.”
Hahn traded starting pitcher Lance Lynn and reliever Joe Kelly to the Dodgers in exchange for right-handed pitchers Nick Nastrini and Jordan Leasure and outfielder Trayce Thompson.
The White Sox also traded reliever Kendall Graveman to the Astros in exchange for catching prospect Korey Lee.
These deals came two days after the White Sox traded starter Lucas Giolito and reliever Reynaldo Lopez to the Angels.
Baseball’s trade deadline is Tuesday.
