Rolling Meadows mother and her 4 children among the 7 killed by a wrong-way driver on the Jane Addams Tollway

HAMPSHIRE (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Illinois State Police continue to investigate a wrong-way crash that occurred early Sunday on the Jane Addams Tollway in McHenry County, critically injuring a Rolling Meadows father and killing his wife and four children.

32-year-old Tom Dobosz is the lone survivor of the head-on crash near Hampshire. Illinois State Police said 22-year-old Jennifer Fernandez of Carpentersville was driving her Acura TSX the wrong way on westbound I-90 shortly after 2 a.m. Sunday when she hit the Chevy van Dobosz was driving, sending both vehicles up in flames.

Police said Fernandez died, along with 31-year-old Lauren Dobosz and their four children, ages 5,6,7 and 13 as well as a 13 year-old female friend. CBS 2 spoke to neighbor David Moreno who remembers the Doboszes being careful and attentive parents.

“You’re used to seeing those kids riding their bikes up and down the street, and then of course the parents yelling at them to be careful, to slow down, things like that. It’s odd, you’re going to miss things like that… Kind of hits harder, in a different way,” Moreno said.

Police said Tom Dobosz was airlifted to the hospital with serious injuries.
