CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Chicago Police detectives have tied one SUV to a series of hold-ups, a carjacking, and a murder.

Chicago police are looking for a white Ford Escape SUV they say was used in four armed robberies at Dunkin’ Donuts shops, a carjacking, and one homicide, all in about three hours Tuesday morning in Chicago and Elmwood Park.

The crime spree began at about 3:10 a.m. Tuesday with an armed robbery of a 24-hour Dunkin’ Donuts at 7201 W. Grand Ave. in Elmwood Park, according to police.

A couple of hours later, at 5:20 a.m., the crew held up another 24-hour Dunkin’ Donuts, 3310 W. Addison St. in the Irving Park neighborhood, police said.

Police said then, at about 5:45 a.m., the same vehicle was involved in the fatal shooting of a 53-year-old man in the Humboldt Park neighborhood.

A ShotSpotter alert sent officers to the 700 block of North Trumbull Avenue, where they found the man unresponsive on a sidewalk, shot in the head. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead just before 8 a.m., according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.

Just after 6:30 a.m., the group moved on to commit two attempted armed robberies of Dunkin’ Donuts shops, one in the Cragin neighborhood, at 5050 W. Grand Ave. and the other in the Logan Square neighborhood at 2035 N. Pulaski Road.

Then, according to police, at about 6:40 a.m., the crew carjacked someone at a Logan Square gas station at 2001 N. Pulaski.

Images from surveillance cameras tied the 2013 white Ford Escape SUV to the crimes. Chicago police said the SUV has an Illinois plate number of BZ25048.

A picture of the SUV was not immediately made available by police.

It's unclear whether the vehicle was stolen - typically they are in these cases.

No arrests have been made.
