CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Schaumburg is adding new rules at its 30 hotels after a rise in crime in that suburb and the area.

More car break-ins, assaults, domestic disputes, noise complaints and other crimes have lead Schaumburg to put new regulations on hotels.

The regulations include lighting and security requirements plus enforcing curfews for juveniles, monitoring public access and limiting stays to 28 days.

The Daily Herald reported there’s been about a 20% increase in calls to police over the last two years.

Schaumburg Police Chief Bill Wolf singled out extended stay hotels as a source of more domestic violence calls.

Village officials demanded Indian Lakes Hotel surrender its license after a fatal gang shooting happened there in February.
