CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Family and friends of a missing transgender activist from Evanston are distributing flyers today and taking part in a rally as they seek answers.

Elise Malary, 31, was reported missing by family March 11. They family had not heard from her for two days. The doors to her apartment were unlocked.

Her car was found nearby in a municipal parking garage.

Malary’s sister Fabiana said she’s never just dropped out of sight. She told CBS 2 earlier this week that she wonders if her sister’s activism in the LGBTQ community has something to do with her disappearance.

Malary was last seen on the 700 block of Hinman Avenue.

Chicago Alderman Andre Vasquez says she’s a good friend and “a leader and advocate for the trans community.”

“We all want to see her back and safe at home,” he said in a Facebook post.
