CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- With Lollapalooza just days away, a local safety expert has some tips for anxious attendees.

Personal Safety Consultant Doug Cummings said each and every year, Chicago Police and other law enforcement agencies spend a lot of time planning out safety measures for Lollapalooza.

“As a result, their setup is going to be as tight as it can be,” Cummings said. “They’re going to have counter-snipers on the roof, they’re going to have helicopters and special arrangements with the hotels and office buildings to keep an eye out.”

When it comes to walking into and out of Grant Park for Lollapalooza, Cummings suggests watching your surroundings and staying with a group at all times.

As for the music itself, he recommends keeping your distance from the performers.

“Yeah, Metallica may be your favorite, but from a safety standpoint, standing close is a really bad idea," Cummings said.

As much as you can, drift towards the sides of the crowd so that if you have to exit quickly, because of weather or any kind of threat really, you’ll have a little room to move and can plan your strategy a bit.”
