CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — It looks like ground will be broken on the presidential library and museum honoring Barack Obama in Jackson Park on the South Side in the fall.
About $850 million had been raised for the Obama Presidential Center as of the end of last year and the Obama Foundation is looking at a groundbreaking on or around September 1.
Foundation Chair Valerie Jarrett told Crain’s Chicago Business that the fundraising has been on-pace although she said donations from the business community have been a little slow.
She said when the three-building campus opens in four years, Obama and his wife, former first lady Michelle, plan to spend a considerable amount of time in Chicago and plan to be actively engaged in the center.
