CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - Most of the Chicago area is now under a Severe Thunderstorm Watch.
The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for counties such as Cook, De Kalb, DuPage, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee and Will. The watch will remain in effect until 5 p.m.
A couple of tornadoes, hail the size of tennis balls and 80 mph wind gusts are possible with these storms, the NWS says.
There could also be an evening round of thunderstorms, between 5 and 9 p.m., with Northern Illinois more of a target. The likeliest area will be near the Illinois-Wisconsin border. Volatile winds and damaging hail are possible. A tornado is also not out of the question.
Today marks the first of four days in which the Chicago area will experience unsettling weather. There’s a chance of storms on Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
