CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — Construction is underway for a new, state-of-the-art science space at Shedd Aquarium.
The shared facility includes labs that will be used for clinical care, as well as conservation efforts. At the moment, those spaces are spread out across the aquarium.
“Shedd’s scientists, animal care team and field researchers will now work together in one spot at the heart of Shedd’s building, and in doing so, will maximize collaborations, expand the aquarium’s capacity to accelerate applied science and amplify the impacts of results,” officials wrote in a press release.
It’s part of a larger, strategic vision known as the “Centennial Commitment,” in which investments will be made to transform the aquarium’s historic home.
The iconic aquarium said it will remain open to visitors throughout all phases of construction.
