(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Kane County Sheriff’s office said a Sugar Grove woman had a blood-alcohol content that was nearly three times the legal limit when she caused a fatal crash Friday night.
Officials said it was about 11 p.m., and Melissa J. Hill was driving her BMW X5 on Bliss Road near Seavey Road.
Hill passed a Dodge Caravan in a no-passing zone and, according to the sheriff’s office, that’s when she hit a Chevrolet pickup head-on. Both vehicles hit the caravan.
The driver of the pickup was killed. He was identified as 54-year-old Jonathan Couch, of Sugar Grove.
His passenger was taken to a hospital in critical, life-threatening condition.
Hill was also hospitalized in serious condition. The sheriff’s office said her blood alcohol content was 0.235.
The Kane County Sheriff’s Office said multiple charges have been approved against Hill. The incident remains under investigation.
