Skokie village board approves Carvana vending machine tower despite bird safety concerns

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – The Skokie village board has approved a plan to allow a 14-story Carvana store to be located in their community even with concerns from bird lovers.

The concern was that twice a year when birds are migrating they might be attracted to the lights of the Carvana building, or vending machine as the company calls it.

Company representative Brett Sassenberg was asked whether Carvana would consider turning off most of its lights at night during those times and he agreed.

“If it helps the case and the concern for the bird folks, that’s not fair, the compassionate folks here tonight concerned about bird strikes, it would and we would,” Sassenberg said.

Besides the bird issue, some residents of the area were also concerned about the amount of truck traffic there’d be transporting the cars.
