Some school districts declare Thursday a snow day ahead of winter storm

CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Predicted snowfall appears to have been off by several hours and isn’t expected to arrive until later in the day but a number of school districts preemptively declared Thursday a snow day.

Some school districts such as District 90 in Lockport, District 12 in Roselle, District 10 in Itasca, District 201 in Westmont and District 13 in Bloomingdale are flat out closed for a snow day.

But others have switched to remote learning.

Those include District 180 in Burr Ridge, District 2 in Bensenville, District 104 in Summit, District 45 in Villa Park and District 53 in Oak Brook.  The state’s two largest school districts – Chicago Public Schools and Elgin District U-46 – are open.

On the roads, the state, city, county and tollway transportation officials said their snow plows and salt spreaders have been at-the-ready since the overnight hours. The Illinois Department of Transportation said it expects travel to be impacted across most of the state today.
