(WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Once again, Illinois has broken the previous day’s record for confirmed and suspected coronavirus cases, and now, Cook County has joined the city of Chicago in declaring a stay-at-home advisory.

The Illinois Department of Public Health on Friday reported 15,415 new and probable cases of COVID-19, including 27 deaths. The statewide positivity rate is 13.2%.

"We are at a crisis level," Gov. JB Pritzker said at his daily coronavirus briefing.

Also Friday, a day after Chicago declared the stay-at-home advisory urging people to avoid most travel outside their residence, officials with Cook County government offered the same guidance to the public.

Cook County officials say more than 99,000 people in suburban Cook have been diagnosed with coronavirus, and the positivity rate is over 15%.

Like the city of Chicago, Cook County is asking people to postpone large-scale holiday plans or have virtual celebrations.

IDPH Director Ngozi Ezike, announcing Friday's coronavirus numbers, said there was a lag in some reporting systems. That could affect the numbers released over the weekend.
