CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) -- Municipal elections are Tuesday in the Chicago area, and there are some hotly and not-so-hotly contested races on the ballot.
In southwest suburban Orland Park, incumbent Mayor Keith Pekau is facing a challenge from former Mayor Dan McLaughlin who said he wants to unify Orland Park after four years under Pekau.
In Mt. Prospect, three village trustees want to replace outgoing Mayor Arlene Juracek. They include William Grossi, Colleen Saccotelli, and Paul Hoefert.
In Des Plaines, Mayor Matthew Bogusz is not running for re-election. Two aldermen and a former aldermen are seeking the job.
And in Wheeling, there is a hot contest for village president as incumbent Pat Horcher is being challenged by developer Mark Smith.
Additionally, in Oak Lawn, 91-year-old Tom Karones is running as a write-in candidate for mayor against 73-year-old retired Oak Lawn police officer Terry Vorderer. Karones told Patch he’s running because he wanted Vorderer to have a challenger. And in Hoffman Estates, longtime Mayor Bill McLeod is facing two challengers: retired police lieutenant Mark Mueller and Nicholas Waryas.
