(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The mayor of Oak Lawn is calling for Cook County State’s Attorney Kim Foxx to resign.
This follows a head-on car crash in Chicago last week that killed a 12-year-old girl, Cire Robinson of Oak Lawn. Cire’s father was badly injured.
Police blame Daniel Regalado of Chicago, 27, who allegedly had a blood-alcohol level of more than five times the legal limit.
Regalado reportedly was out on bond for three felonies. Six years ago, he had been charged with attempted murder — charges dropped by Foxx’s office four years ago.
Oak Lawn Mayor Sandra Bury says Foxx bears some blame.
“At what point do the citizens say, ‘Enough’? Who’s looking out for them? It is not our state’s attorney,” she said Wednesday.
Mayor Bury admits she’s never been a supporter of Kim Foxx but said she says she was willing to give her a chance, at first.
Foxx’s office says, in part, that her office “works to uphold public safety through the fair and efficient administration of justice and continues to prosecute cases to the full extent of the law.” A statement from the office notes that judges play a key role in determining who is a threat to public safety.
Regalado is being held on $500,000 bond, according to the Cook County Sheriff’s Department.
