(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – A 50-year-old Arlington Heights man faces a charge of attempted murder after he allegedly used an ax to attack a person in a village parking garage over the weekend.
Police say officers were dispatched for a disturbance around 6:30 a.m. Sunday at the underground parking garage at 35 S. Evergreen Avenue following a call from an emergency call box in that facility.
There, they found a man who said he’d been sleeping in the garage when an acquaintance ran over his legs with a bicycle and struck him with both ends of an ax, “while stating his intention to kill the victim,” officials said in a news release.
Authorities later charged Mitchell Nowak with one count of attempted murder, police said. His bond was set at $200,000. His next court date is May 12.
The man who had been attacked in the garage received medical attention from paramedics, police said.
