CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The person shot and killed by police early Monday morning in Little Village was a 13-year-old boy, officials said.
“That boy should not have been there at 2:30 in that alley. It just shouldn’t have happened,” said 12th Ward Ald. George Cardenas.
He represents the neighborhood where police shot 13-year-old Adam Toledo.
Police say it was an armed confrontation that led to the shooting.
They say the boy was shot in the chest and died.
“This is what sometimes keeps me up at night: What could I do better, or what could I do more of?” Cardenas said. “I know we have ‘violence interruptors’ in the area. And this man never had a chance.”

Chicago Police Supt. David Brown released a statement expressing condolences to the family, while saying a split-second decision to use deadly force is extremely difficult for any officer.
Police have said Toledo was with a 21-year-old man when officers arrived on the scene responding to shots fired.
Cardenas said the 21-year-old has a gang affiliation.
COPA -- the Civilian Office of Police Accountability -- is investigating the fatal shooting by police. The office said it is determining whether it can legally release video of the shooting to the public because it involves a juvenile.
"The death of 13 year old Adam Toledo is tragic and we have all been saddened by this incident. COPA has been in contact with the Toledo family and will provide the family a review of all video materials," a COPA spokesperson said.
