CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A physical education teacher and track coach at Taft High School was arrested earlier this week for allegedly stalking Mayor Lori Lightfoot.
Chicago police said 36-year-old Garrett McLinn was charged with two felony counts of stalking, disorderly conduct and five counts of resisting a police officer after he was arrested near Lightfoot’s Logan Square home.
WTTW reported that Lightfoot’s security detail confronted McLinn, who has reportedly appeared outside the mayor’s house on at least one other occasion. Chicago Public Schools sources told WTTW that McLinn has not been at the school since early March.
In a statement to the news outlet, Lightfoot said: “No one, including any elected official, should have to experience threats of physical harm, regardless of their political ideology."
Officials said McLinn has already appeared in court.
