(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – Mayor Lori Lightfoot’s letter to Texas Gov.
Greg Abbott over the weekend -- urging him to cease sending migrants to Chicago -- does not appear to have worked.

The mayor posted Abbott’s written response Monday on Twitter. In it, the Republican executive blamed Democratic President Joe Biden for what Abbott says are failed “open-border” policies and predicted things will only get worse.

“You are right that ‘this situation is completely untenable,’ but this is not a Texas problem—this is a problem for the entire United States of America,” Abbott’s signed letter, dated Monday, says. “To provide much-needed relief to our overrun border communities, Texas began busing migrants to sanctuary cities such as your ‘Welcoming City,’ along with Washington, D.C., New York City, and Philadelphia, with more to come.

“Until Biden secures the border to stop the inflow of mass migration, Texas will continue this necessary program.”

Chicago aldermen last week complained that city resources are stretched to the breaking point in dealing with the estimated 8,000 migrants who have been sent here since last summer.

Lightfoot told Abbott that many of the migrants have medical issues that should have been treated at the border.

On Monday, the mayor criticized Abbott’s response to her plea, calling it “shameful but sadly expected.”

“Here's the response from the politician who continues to race to the bottom to score political points with no regard for the human lives involved or the consequences,” Lightfoot tweeted.
