(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The city of Chicago is advising thousands of people to boil drinking water after the Roseland Pumping Station went off line for an hour Thursday morning.

Most of the people affected reside in Beverly and Morgan Park.

19th Ward Alderman Matthew O’Shea says he’s frustrated.

“That number one, it happened. And number two, why it’s taken so long to get information out to people,” he said.

O’Shea says in his ward, 20 schools, 50 restaurants and 12,000 homes are affected.

“Obviously I’m frustrated because I can’t just unilaterally make a decision. We need health experts to inform us.”

O’Shea said it took too long to get actionable information to the public.

“We have to do better,” he said.

City officials say there will be an investigation into why the pumping station went off-line and what role ComEd may have played.

The boundaries for the boil order are: east of Sacramento Avenue,  north of 119th Street, west of I-57 and southwest of Beverly Avenue.
