CHICAGO (WBBM NEWSRADIO) — The Democratic state lawmaker challenging Michael Madigan for his job as Illinois House Speaker says the party’s performance in this week’s elections is just one more reason why he needs to go.

West suburban legislator Stephanie Kifowit said she decided to run against Madigan for the Speaker’s gavel because a legislative and party leader should not be implicated in a bribery scheme or past allegations over how sexual harassment complaints have been handled.

Madigan, who doubles as chair of the Illinois Democratic Party, has not been charged in a federal investigation into bribes paid by ComEd for favors.

But Kifowit, a former Marine, said the cloud of corruption allegations hurt the party’s candidates at polls this past week.

Kifowit is the guest on “At Issue,” which airs 9:30 p.m.
