EVANSTON (WBBM NEWSRADIO) - An Evanston City Council committee advanced a plan Tuesday night that would allow women to go topless.
During public comment, Rob Bush, the President of the Evanston Parks and Recreation Board, objected to the idea.

“This has received absolutely no public input whatsoever, and that before you take this and consider it all, we’re hoping that the only reason it’s on your agenda is that you are going to vote it down,” Bush said.

Alderman Devon Reid, who’s behind the proposal, said it’s wrong to say this is about topless beaches.

“Step away from this whole idea that it’s about topless beaches or any of that stuff, because that’s not what it’s about, and that’s why folks are against it because they’re like, ‘what the heck are you doing?’ Reid said.

He sees it as equality.  Eliminating a double-standard.Reid believes that the way the city’s nudity ordinance is written, singling out female breasts, is unconstitutional.

There was discussion during the meeting about re-writing the ordinance to include lewdness and community standards.

While it was approved by the Human Services Committee, this is far from a done deal.
